Deutsche Post DHL performed above expectations in the past quarter due to a sharp rise in demand for parcel delivery. The German logistics and postal giant wants to have its 500,000 employees share in the profit, and gives them a bonus of 300 euros.
Operating profit rose 16 percent in the second quarter to around 890 million euros, the company reported on the basis of preliminary figures. Due to the corona pandemic, consumers worldwide bought more online, as a result of which DHL delivered more packages. At the same time, other logistics divisions, such as those for freight transport, are suffering from the economic crisis. In the first three months of this year, Deutsche Post DHL still felt that crisis in its results, halving the operating result.
Deutsche Post DHL was confident enough in its trading update to forecast 2020 and make a dividend proposal. The company expects an operating profit of between 3.5 billion and 3.8 billion euros. At the same time, the group claims to remain “alert” because the corona pandemic is not over yet.
