Google postpones the shutdown of Hangouts app for business users

Google is postponing the end of its Hangouts chat app until June 2020, the company reports on its website. Originally, Google would stop the Hangouts app for users of G Suite, Google’s app bundle for business users, in October.

Business Hangouts users are expected to switch to Google’s Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet alternatives.

The US tech giant is postponing the end of Hangouts for business users to give organizations more time to migrate their chat service. In the current schedule, Google wants all business users to have moved from the classic Hangouts app to the updated version by the end of 2020.

The consumer version of the Hangouts app remains. Earlier rumors that Google would also stop with that variant were denied by the company in December.
