Atari VCS postponed until the end of 2019

Atari is still working on the new game console Atari VCS, but will not be able to ship the console this spring. To be able to put better chips in the device, the manufacturer postpones the delivery until the end of 2019.

It is worth mentioning that entire project is not exactly what it seems to be. This Atari is in many ways not a successor of the Atari of GenX childhood. The ‘new’ Atari has a record of unfulfilled promises. To dive deeper in the topic I recommend the following link.

The Atari VCS should have appeared this spring, but has now been postponed because Atari wants to wait for new video and processor chips from manufacturer AMD. For this the software of the game computer must also be adjusted.

The new chips must ensure that the console has more computing power and becomes less warm during play. Moreover, according to the manufacturer, these chips are also quieter. The new processor can also support 4K.

The Atari VCS was funded in June 2018 through a crowdfunding project. This raised 2.6 million euros. People who gave money for the development of the console were the first to receive the Atari VCS.

It is not known whether the console will also be immediately available to the general public at the end of 2019.
