Despite the fact that the Apple Watch is very popular, and Spotify is currently the largest music stream service, both products do not work together. This seems to be changing now, as the service may be carrying out a test. And that test has everything to do with the Apple smartwatch.
For many users of the Apple Watch it is a recurring irritation. They do not use Apple Music and therefore cannot play music through that smartwatch on their wrist. Not everyone is so deep in the Apple ecosystem that they actually use all of Apple’s services. In this case, Apple Watch owners can also use Spotify, for example, but as a result they do not have specific functionality. And that’s too bad. But now it seems that the music stream service is tackling this problem, as a possible solution to this problem is being tested.
Spotify is currently testing a new function with a limited listener group. That group of people can use the music stream service on their wrist through the Apple Watch. At the time of this writing, we don’t know how big that group is and why these people were chosen; for now it seems to be complete randomness, too. It certainly does not seem to be a specific beta version of the app. Some users simply encounter the new functionality (playing music via Spotify on the Apple Watch) on their smartwatch, including the text Beta, in a blue block.
The news was first shared by the German website iPhone-Ticker. Spotify itself has not brought out anything about the test, so we do not yet know about the duration of the test period and the possible release date of the function. Beta-testers say that when the beta is active, they see the Apple Watch as an additional option between available playback devices. The waiting is now for word from Spotify.
