35 percent of Fornite players are women, said Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney at the GDC game developer conference in San Francisco.

In an interview with Engadget, Sweeney discusses the numbers of players in the Fortnite shooting game and claims that a growing number of players are female players. Although the majority are still men, these percentages are higher than the estimates for similar games, which fluctuate around 16 percent.

Fornite also saw player numbers rise again in the first months of 2019; according to Sweeney, there are now 250 million registered Fortnite players. In addition, they had more than ten million simultaneous players during peak hours.

Fortnite is currently the most popular online game. In 2018, Epic Games recorded a profit of 3 billion dollars (2.6 billion euros) with the game.
