The Radiocommunications Agency is tightening the supervision of wireless devices in the Netherlands. According to the regulator, smart devices must be guaranteed to work safely and reliably.
The Radiocommunications Agency states that, in 2019, consumers and the business community must be able to trust that mobile phones, tablets, smartwatches and other smart devices are reliable, work undisturbed and are safe to use.
In the new Annual Plan Supervision 2019, the safety and proper functioning of the equipment marketed has been identified as one of the spearheads. The agency will also be conducting research this year into the impact of future technologies on the availability and susceptibility of networks.
Experts at the Telecom Agency believe that the arrival of 5G will bring about major changes. This will create opportunities for all kinds of new services and applications in, for example, agriculture or traffic – think of self-driving cars – but also increases the social importance of fast and reliable mobile networks, according to the regulator.
