The growth in passenger numbers at Dutch airports is continuing. In the fourth quarter of last year, 18.8 million travelers flew to and from the Netherlands, an increase of 4.1 percent compared to a year earlier, reports Central Bureau of Statistics in the Aviation Quarterly Monitor.

The smaller airports in Rotterdam, Groningen and Maastricht in particular welcomed considerably more passengers in the last three months of 2018. For example, Maastricht airport welcomed 75 percent more passengers. 12 percent and 19 percent more people flew via Rotterdam and Groningen respectively. Schiphol transported 17 million passengers, which meant a growth of 3.5 percent.

Furthermore, the statistics office reported that the amount of cargo at Dutch airports increased by 0.5 percent in the fourth quarter to 475,000 tonnes. This growth is entirely attributable to Maastricht airport. The cargo volume at Schiphol decreased by 1.2 percent.
