US residential construction is picking up


The number of homes under construction in the United States increased by 5.7 percent in April compared to a month earlier. The US Department of Commerce announced this.

The construction amounted to more than 1.2 million houses on an annual basis. Economists generally expected that housing construction would increase by 6.2 percent. According to a new estimate, housing construction increased by 1.7 percent in March.

The ministry also announced that the number of building permits issued in April increased by 0.6 percent.
